Claremore. Muskogee. Tahlequah. In that order. If the people truly are tired of politics, all they have to do is listen. They'll know.
With all the issues that are confronting us, the biggest issue that we must confront first and foremost is the issue of immorality in Washington. We are experiencing the consequence of this every day decisions are made in our nation's capitol. John Adams, our 2nd President, makes it very clear what made us exceptional when he said, "The greatest glory of the American Revolution was that it bound together in one indissoluble bond the principles of Christianity and the principles of civil government." Our Founding Fathers relied on and implemented the principles John Adams references so that every American would have the opportunity of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".
To be an exceptional nation again will require the kind of commitment our Founding Fathers had when they said, "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor." This root problem of immorality in decision making is devastating our country and it must be confronted. Allow me to quote Benjamin Franklin when he said, "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom".
Returning to morals means making decisions for the American people over one's party, special interest groups, or for one's own re-election. The candidate the people send to Washington must actively lead like minded leaders to return to the principles of our Founding Fathers that they claim to believe in. As a pastor, I feel I can do that better than anyone. These principles made us exceptional once and they will make us exceptional again. Then and only then will God bless America, just like He did before! Senator Tom Coburn was quoted by the Muskogee Phoenix on 8/18/11 as saying, "We need to elect real world, not political, experience."
If I can not accomplish my goal in 4 years, I need to be home. Two terms were good enough for our Founders, it will be good enough for me. I am not a careerist nor am I seeking government retirement! Ronald Reagan said, "There are no easy answers but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right."
Thank you for all you do to help our fellow Americans hold on to our freedom.
