Fair share or lie from Hell?
January 25, 2012The buzz word today being thrown around like a sack of feed is 'fair share'. These two words are creating a divide that we have not seen in a life time. It's being said that not only the wealthy should pay their 'fair share' but that the poor should receive their 'fair share'. That's as dumb as saying that we're going to do away with poverty, like a I heard an elected official say one time. This may sound good and give everyone a warm fuzzy, but this is not a realistic statement. If it is, then Jesus Christ is a liar because He said that we would always have the poor among us (Matthew 26:11). The Bible talks a lot about the poor, but it also talks about personal responsibility. Most assuredly there are those who are unable to provide for them self, and we are commanded by God to take care of them. I am in full support of helping those who truly cannot help them self, just like the majority of Americans. But there are those who want to be taken care of by others when they are able to provide for them self. These, the Bible says, will starve to death "because his hands refuse to work" (Proverbs 21:25). So much for 'fair share'.
It's probably alarming to some that the Bible teaches that those who take what they are given and make more from it, are to be rewarded. The thinking for some today has been misguided to believe that those who work to be successful are to give up more of what they earn so that those who choose not to work can have their 'fair share'. That lie from hell does nothing less than to steal from people what God has instilled in them, a desire to succeed. When a person chooses not to work; when they choose not to achieve; then they will reap what they sow, which is nothing. It's impossible to reap a harvest when you never planted!
The problem with all this 'fair share' talk is that our government is propagating this mentality to such a degree that many fellow Americans have given up hope. Our government, instead of creating environments for companies to create jobs and for people to succeed and be rewarded for their hard work, is stealing away the hopes and dreams of people in many ways. To have a 'chicken in every pot' should come from the prosperity in America, not from the American government. The 'government will take care of you' mentality will kill the God given drive to succeed, which will destroy the America that our Founding Fathers established. The only 'fair share' that anyone should have in America is the share they are willing to work for, if they are able.
